Paris Roubaix Cycling Poster Print - The Hell of the North. The iconic race christened 'The Hell of the North' when the course was reviewed post Great War when the ravages of the conflict had left such an indelible mark of destruction. These days that 'Hell' is reflected by the sheer demands of the race and the potential for puncture, mechanical failures and the energy sapping pavé sections. It's a race that demands so much form the cyclists and captivates so many fans.

“The Hell of the North” - is the nickname given to the One-Day Classic Paris-Roubaix. Although a brutal race, the moniker comes from the first edition of the race following World War I. Roubaix saw the worst of the conflict. In 1919, the cyclists racing from Paris to Roubaix experienced firsthand the horrifying aftermath of the Great War. Journalists afterwards reportedly heard racers saying, “They’d been through hell.”
