Music for Chemical Brothers and Sisters

Music for Chemical Brothers and Sisters

Once upon a time I was pouring over the original Periodic Table of Elements. I love a good chart or infographic but the Periodic Table is the boss of all info charts and dates back to 1869.

I'm no Chemistry fan but the more I looked at the Element symbols (single and two letter abbreviations), the more I started to see the names of bands and musicians. I thought if a design is going to mimic the Periodic Table it had to retain the original symbols at least, otherwise it's just random letters and names.

Similarly with the title, minerals are derived from rock and metal so that gave a further leg-up to create something with its roots in the original but embracing music.

The genres of music like New Wave / Indie, Ska / Reggae and others were perfect for creating sub divisions and to fully appeal to both generic music lovers and for those looking for their favourite band.

With each 'element' we've included each band/artist's start date together with a graphic icon in the background.

To supplement the element panels we then listed further artists at the base of the poster - 'Other Matters and Substance' which with the original poster is listed as 'Various States of Matter'.

So from Arctic Monkeys to Frank Zappa there's a full range from the 60s to the present day and Rock to Pop with plenty in between.
